Good Morning! My name is Whitney and I have been teaching at Impress for almost 10 years but this is my first-time blogging!
When I teach, I always like to share a new technique or two so I thought it would be fun to share one today with the fabulous new dies and stamps from Flora and Fauna! They have such unique and fun designs that make simple card making quite easy.
For today’s card, I did inlaid die cutting. It is clean and simple, uses minimal supplies but the results make your recipient wonder how you did it. The finish is a die cut card that is completely flat.Supplies:
Flora and Fauna Cactus Trio and Teepee dies
Flora and Fauna Adventure set
Fresh Ink in Copper
Copic Markers
Black ink, white cardstock and a tape runner
That’s it!
First, I die cut the cactus from the front card panel
Then, I removed the die and added the teepee die, overlapping with where the cactus cut. Save all the pieces!
Next, I colored the white die cuts with my copic markers. I went simple with this, I am not an expert! I used two colors – with the lighter color I colored the whole die cut and then I blended the darker color up from the bottom. I went over the whole piece again with the lighter color. I also used a yellow copic marker to color a white piece of scrap paper what was big enough to fit behind the openings on my card panel.
Putting the card together!
Before I glued everything together, I did my stamping. I stamped the ground with Copper Fresh Ink under my cactus and teepee. I stamped my words in Versafine black ink. Both stamps are from the Adventure set - so many cute images in this set. This is what I love about Flora and Fauna – there are many different images in one set, and even though there is a theme to the set, the images are unique and can work together or apart.
Now for the inlay – I put tape runner on the back of my card panel around the die cut area. I also put tape runner on the back of my die cuts. Then they simply pop in place like a puzzle! I love how the yellow paper shines through the cut outs in the die. (I also die cut and colored the cactus flower that comes in the set).
I did one more sample for my post, this time I used the same technique, but I used all three of the cactus dies that come in the set. I die cut the tallest cactus first, then I was able to die cut the other 2 at the same time overlapping both with the middle cactus. The key to inlaid die cutting is to cut the die you want in the front, first.
Thanks for joining me today!

Great cards! Thanks for the tutorial - need to give this a try. I need to remember to pull out my markers instead of grabbing paper for a colored background ; )
